Good news for people used to bad news

As I turn in for the night tonight, there are some good news stories of note...

  • Chad and Sudan have struck a peace accord;
  • there's a new EU climate change commitment;
  • and the US House of Representatives has passed a bill banning retroactive immunity for telecom companies coerced into/agreeing to comply with the Bush administration's illegal domestic wiretapping program, although the bill is sure to be vetoed once it hits the Oval Office.

    WOOHOO! Thanks Clearhought! As I have been purusing my blogroll today the theme has been that we are in dire times. I have been feeling that things are about to turn. Not that things will get better before they get worse. It may be years before we discover, let alone begin to repair, the damages done to us by the Bush regime. But America has not seen political activism at the level enjoyed today since the days of the civil rights movement and America's displeasure with the Viet Nam war. When America reclaims the power of our Democracy we always come through. Now is a time where we can prevail. But we are going to have to stay attentive and active and exercize our right to vote!
