Prisoner legislation, Republicans, Irwin, Zune, and Abramoff...

No shortage of news today!

We have a Washington Post columnist saying that Republicans were "off message" in their actions taken to have the United States follow the Geneva Conventions (which Bush reiterates in his usual rhetoric, are "vague" — see also Slate piece on Powell's mutiny yesterday). The New York Times has an article about Bush defending his immoral prisoner abuse and unconstitutional, inhumane, and international law-breaking trial scheme in various American outposts that detain so called 'enemy combatants' of the "War on Terrorism".

Meanwhile, tickets are sold out to 'crocodile hunter' Steve Irwin's memorial service.

Also, Microsoft's fairly sad, uninspired (exempting wi-fi and radio, but taking into account battery life), and clunky version (do you really want to watch The Godfather or skip with the scroll-wheel with that external shell and dimensions?) of an 'iPod-killing' MP3 player, Zune, has been released (good external links from last link).

While the GOP's prisoner catch phrases may have gone down the tubes, they still have their border security mantra: "border security first". Good for them. Lastly in this post, we have US Rep. Nay, an Ohio Republican, being shown once and for all as an Abramoff conspirator (which includes prosecution) — watch out other powerful congresspeople who did not-too-ethical things, you could be next (in a near-perfect world)! (Seriously, Bush still won't release those goddamn photos of him and the disgraced former lobbyist.)
